Change an existing schema without losing data
Work on a database that already contains data. Add a column without deleting products, remove only a retired table, and inspect both structure and contents.
ALTER TABLE changes an existing structure. ADD COLUMN retains rows; a required new column on a populated table needs a suitable default. DROP TABLE removes both a table’s structure and its rows.
