Choose among three meanings of position. Preserve business ties while providing unique deterministic row numbers.

ROW_NUMBER gives unique row numbers; RANK preserves ties with gaps; DENSE_RANK preserves ties without gaps. Ties use that function’s ORDER BY values. Adding id to RANK removes total-based ties.
